The Master in
Psychology

constitutes the second part of basic university education. The aim is to deepen students' knowledge of certain specialist areas of psychology.

Students must choose one of the five course programmes offered for the Master's in Psychology. Depending on which course programme they select, students may also have to opt for one or two concentrations from among the four available, which are affective psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology and social psychology.

The five course programmes are:

  • CLINICAL INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOLOGY, which provides students with training in the many issues that arise in clinical psychology when dealing with children, teenagers, adults or the elderly. The programme takes an integrative, empirical approach, teaching students to consider the multiple factors that must be taken into account in clinical settings
  • HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY, which covers topics such as the psychological causes and consequences of diseases; health promotion and disease prevention; support for patients, their friends and families, and medical staff; and individuals' and society's relationship with the health care system
  • PSYCHOLOGY OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, which looks at the factors that prompt individuals to consume, make decisions and behave in a way that can improve our biosystem and people's well-being, both now and for future generations. Students will conduct in-depth analyses of the individual factors influencing sustainability-related behaviour and the strategies that can be adopted to promote this behaviour
  • APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY, which is an open programme offering more general training. Students learn how to apply psychological expertise and methods in various areas, including social and organisational settings (e.g. prejudice, discrimination, equality, psychosocial risks and work-related stress), education and psychogerontology
  • ADVANCED RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY, in which students cover two of the four concentrations (affective, cognitive, developmental and social psychology). It prepares students to become PhD students or research assistants, and ultimately for a career in research
